Merlot

Covey Run 2003 (about $9): If you’re on a budget and still need a nice Washington Merlot to serve to a large group consider this one from Covey Run. The wine displays some good dark berry and cherry flavors with a bit of a smoky finish with touches of oak.

San Juan Vineyards 2003 (about $14): This Yakima Valley Merlot has some nice cherry and plum flavors with ample tannins to provide structure and a hint of toasty oak on the finish. Another well-priced winner from the island winery.
