Tuscany’s Montecucco Region Producing Some Fine Sangiovese

Montenero Winery 2015 Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG (about $25) – This up-and-coming Italian wine region is producing some terrific Sangioveses that make excellent choices to pair with your meal.

Bold and complex, with great finishing acidity, this wine features both brighter fruit flavors of red currant and cranberry, as well as darker undertones of black cherry and plum. The lengthy finish, backed with ample tannins, is highlighted with hints of sweet tobacco, vanilla, and toasted oak.

Try serving this with a variety of foods including gamey meats such as pheasant or venison, roasted pork, wild mushroom quiche or even something as simple as pasta with Bolognese sauce.
