Be Sure to Try These Current Releases from Washington’s Sagemoor Estates

2022 Estate White Blend and 2021 Without Rehearsal – These nearly identical blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon from the White Bluffs AVA could not be more different on the palate.

The White Blend was aged almost entirely in stainless, along with a small amount of concrete, and is light, bright, and lemony, with a splash of lemon zest and plenty of minerality on the finish. The Without Rehearsal was aged in French oak puncheons, concrete, and amphora, and displays gentle apple, nectarine, and pear flavors with more of a rich, creamy finish.

Sagemoor’s Danny Gordon

Sagemoor General Manager Danny Gordon recommends two spot-on food pairings: oysters for the White Blend and halibut for the Without Rehearsal.

2021 Estate Red Blend – This “always Merlot dominant” Bordeaux blend is a combination of 92% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc. Plum, blackberry leaf, and red raspberry flavors lead off, with subtle touches of caramel, vanilla, and graphite on a soft finish. Absolutely delicious.

2020 Miguel the Man – Named for long-time Vineyard Manager Miguel Rodriguez, this stunning blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc shows tons of depth and character. Plum and cherry aromas fill the glass, followed by beautiful flavors of blackberry and blueberry compote. A long, contemplative finish features a spritz of white pepper, cocoa nibs, and bittersweet chocolate.

2020 Stars in a Row and 2022 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon – The Stars in A Row opens with a lovely fragrance of raspberry jam followed by contrasting big, dark, concentrated fruits of black plum and currant. The finish is both slightly inky and herbaceous, suggesting a food pairing of burgers or T-bone steaks off the grill. This is classic Washington State Cab with a splash of Merlot blended in.

Despite being two years younger, the 2022 Estate Cab is incredibly easy to drink, with gorgeous plum and blackberry flavors and nicely integrated tannins. The somewhat plush, silky finish makes it an ideal, on-its-own sipper.

2021 Codebreaker GSM – Composed of 47% Syrah, 37% Mourvedre, and 16% Grenache, this superbly crafted blend is layered and bold, with nuances of leather, tobacco, and dense dried cherry and currant fruit. The finish is a bit grippy, with hints of spice and a nice touch of bracing acidity.
